The CyberNEMO project is addressing these challenges through a dedicated trial focused on smart farming and agri-food supply chains.<br>The project explores how cybersecurity can enhance traceability, transparency, and trust in the production of organic olive oil\u2014from the olive grove to the supermarket shelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Use Case: From Tree to Table<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use case centers on the\u00a0<strong>monitoring and auditing<\/strong>\u00a0of organic olive oil production. This includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ul-custom\">\n \t<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Growing conditions<\/strong>\u00a0monitored by IoT sensors and drones<\/p>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Harvesting and milling<\/strong>\u00a0tracked via smart devices and robots<\/p>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Bottling, storage, and transport<\/strong>\u00a0secured through blockchain and digital twins<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These technologies ensure that every step of the process is&nbsp;<strong>observable and verifiable<\/strong>, enabling stakeholders and consumers to trace the product\u2019s journey and verify its quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the reliance on&nbsp;<strong>unattended, rural IoT devices<\/strong>&nbsp;introduces significant cybersecurity risks. Devices may be physically tampered with, infected with malicious firmware, or used as entry points for broader attacks&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From Cybersecurity to Trust and Sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CyberNEMO\u2019s approach goes beyond technical protection. It enables:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ul-custom\">\n \t<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Accountability<\/strong>: Through audit logs and timestamped data<\/p>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Transparency<\/strong>: Via blockchain-backed traceability<\/p>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Resilience<\/strong>: With self-healing systems and secure federated learning<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Compliance<\/strong>: With GDPR, the AI Act, and the Data Act<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By embedding cybersecurity into the&nbsp;<strong>entire agri-food lifecycle<\/strong>, CyberNEMO ensures that digital farming is not only efficient but also&nbsp;<strong>trustworthy and sustainable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cybersecurity in agriculture is no longer optional\u2014it\u2019s essential.
